This adorable gingerbread wreath knitting pattern features cute white frosting designs, 3 cute knit gingerbread men, and a big red knit bow on top!
I have discovered that I love a knit wreath and I have a blast designing and knitting them. I have done several gingerbread crafts and a gingerbread hat knitting pattern so I though a gingerbread wreath knitting pattern would be really cute.
And what do you need to adorn a gingerbread wreath? Little knit gingerbread men! Or maybe we’ll call them gingerbread people wearing pants. I tried very very hard to design a gingerbread person wearing a skirt and at this small scale it just didn’t work.
Once the gingerbread men were on the wreath though, it still needed something and that something was definitely a big squishy bow on top. I could not possibly be more happy with how the bow came out and I plan to make that a knitting pattern on its own.
I investiged several different ways to make knit bows and many of them involved actually tying or folding a single piece of knitting into a bow shape. And that was bulky and confusing and required diagrams. So I went about it differently (as I am wont to do) and it’s so good. It’s the perfect bow technique for when you won’t see the wrong side (which is most of the time anyway). I hope you like it!
This cute gingerbread wreath knitting pattern does use fair isle stranded knitting techniques meaning to create the frosting pattern on the wreath itself you will knit with two colors of yarn at a time. That being said, if you wanted to, you could knit the entire wreath in brown and then add the frosting later with duplicated stitch.
And in that same vein of making this pattern flexible, it is designed to be knit in the round on double pointed knitting needles (or magic loop) with worsted weight yarn, but I’ve also included notes to help you knit the wreath flat on straight knitting needles if that’s what you prefer.
Are you ready to knit a gingerbread wreath? Let’s get started!
