Knit up an adorable little garden with this great list of the cutest vegetable and fruit baby hat knitting patterns!
If you’ve been here any length of time, you know I’m the self-proclaimed Queen of the Baby Hats. You might think, based on the number of baby hats I have knit that I have a big family with lots of babies. I do not. Just the two. But if we’re talking baby hats per capita (pun intended) then we have…well…let’s just say a lot…
That being said, I think the great thing about baby hats that you don’t get with other knitting projects is that you’re allowed to be a little silly and not take yourself too seriously. For example, if you want to dress your baby in a hat that makes them look like an apple, people will giggle and smile and think it’s adorable! But if you dress yourSELF up as a grown up apple on a random Tuesday, well, you might get some weird looks.
At this point I have about 200 different baby hat knitting patterns here on my site and among my top favorites are the vegetable and fruit baby hat knitting patterns. I love that they’re super cute, they’re instantly understandable (like, “Oh! Of course, that’s a strawberry!”) and they’re fun to knit.
While they’re adorable all year round, fruit and vegetable baby hats are also my favorite easy baby hats to knit from Spring, through Summer and into Fall, when gardens are bursting. They make a little more sense visually in the warm weather than a big thick cabled winter beanie or something.
You might be thinking, “wait, do babies really need hats in the summer?” Yes, yes they do. Especially young babies. I mean, think how chilly you get in that ridiculous air-conditioning in public places like the mall or the doctor’s office…now imagine that you’re tiny and you have no hair!
Furthermore, if anyone can think of anything cuter than a baby wearing an apple hat at an apple orchard, please do let me know.
