Learn how to work a k3tog (knit 3 together) stitch in your next knitting project with this easy tutorial.
K3tog is not a knitting abbreviation that you will come across frequently, but it can be helpful for shaping some knitting projects so it’s important to learn how to do.
Knit 3 together (k3tog) is a right-leaning double decrease. This means it will decrease your work by two stitches and the appearance of the k3tog on the right side leans to the right. I often use k3tog to add a sharp point to a shaped piece of knitting (for example, a leaf shape).
Because k3tog uses 3 stitches instead of 2 like k2tog, it will come out from the surface of the work a little bit more creating a bit more obvious texture and a more dramatic decrease.
How to knit a k3tog (knit 3 together)
- Insert the right needle through the first 3 stitches on your left knitting needle knitwise.
- Wrap the working yarn around the tip of the right needle.
- Pull the yarn through all three stitches to knit them all together at the same time.
- Drop the original 3 stitches from the left needle.
- You will now have one single stitch on the right knitting needle.
