This reversible rib hat knitting pattern is knit in a reversible rib stitch that comes out thick, squishy and super warm and cozy for anyone from baby to toddler to adult!
Can we talk about this Reversible Rib Hat knitting pattern? For a long time I didn’t think I really liked rib stitches except on the brims of hats. I don’t know why, maybe because all of that switching the working yarn from front to back makes it take a little bit longer? But then I discovered that there is more to rib stitches that just regular rib stitches.
Take the reversible rib hat knitting pattern, for example. This is one I stumbled upon called the cartridge belt rib stitch. Which sounds kind of like something in an auto body shop to me. So I’m calling it reversible rib because the stitch truly is reversible. And because of the slipped stitches involved in this stitch, it’s super warm and squishy. Plus just different enough to be more interesting than a standard ribbed hat knitting pattern.
That being said, I should address the elephant in the room…while the reversible rib stitch IS reversible. This hat, sadly, is not 100% perfectly reversible. I tried SO hard, but in the last couple rounds of the decrease there just wasn’t a way to make it exactly the same on the inside and the outside. Truly, that would have only been for novelty anyway since most people don’t wear their knits inside out, right? But I really wanted to do it for fun! (Look at the beautiful top though, I think it was worth it!)
Anyway, it’s still a wonderful pattern and stitch (whether you call it reversible rib or cartridge belt rib). If you knit one, I hope you’ll share it with me! Stay warm!
