Sk2p is a left leaning double decrease used in knitting projects when you need to decrease the number of stitches on your needles. A double decreases takes away two stitches each time you do it.

It also sounds super scary.

I sometimes think knitting speak is one of the reasons people are scared to learn to knit. Like seriously, even I don’t always remember how to do an sk2p. And let’s not even get into the fact that there is also an s2kp. I mean, come on!

But I guess we can’t be writing out “slip one, knit two together, pass slipped stitch over” ever time you want to knit a left leaning double decrease because then patterns would be 9 million pages long.

How to knit an sk2p (slip 1, knit 2 together, pass slipped stitch over)

1. Start an sk2p with your yarn behind your work
2. Slip one stitch from the left needle onto the right knitting needle knitwise
3. Knit the next 2 stitches on the left needle together
4. Then use the tip of the left knitting needle (or your fingers) to lift the slipped stitch up, over the k2tog, and off the right knitting needle
5. Sk2p is a left-leaning double decrease stitch
