This classic Valentine’s Day hat pattern, the Cupid’s Heart Hat knitting pattern features a duplicates stitch classic heart shape with Cupid’s arrow through it!
Duplicate stitch is my new favorite way to add large scaled designs to knit projects. If you haven’t tried duplicates stitch before, it’s really easy. I even have a tutorial for you!
One reason I really like using duplicate stitch for something like my new Cupid’s Heart Hat knitting pattern is that you can just speed through the basic hat patter while watching Netflix or something and you don’t have to juggle multiple strands of yarn or anything. And then you can add the heart at the end.
You also can be 100% sure it’s exactly where you want it rather than trying to insert the motif as you go with colorwork. In fact, I started my heart up a little too high on this sample and it was so much easier to change than if I had been knitting the motif in as I went. I think I am a duplicate stitch fan for life!
I also am really enjoying large dense pom poms right now. I got myself a quick pom pom maker which I’m not really sure it much faster than using my fingers or a piece of cardboard or a fork, but it feels somehow more satisfying.
I also got a set of super sharp scissors for cutting to release the pom and that really made a difference as well. But of course it required just as much trimming at the end to make it look nice as any of the other “less official” methods of pom pom making which is why I definitely think it’s optional.
