This ABC Alphabet hat knitting pattern is perfect for babies and toddlers learning their ABC’s, Back to School time or anytime!
Well, I sat down to write about my ABC Alphabet Hat knitting pattern and immediately got the Jackson 5 song in my head. So there’s that. How’s your day going? Ha! Will I ever get this song out of my head? Not likely, given that the next pattern I need to write about involves 123’s…
Anyway, this ABC hat pattern is really fun. I designed a separate chart for each size so that all the letters from A to Z fit on all of the sizes. It was quite a feat if I do say so myself! Be aware that a few of the letter shapes vary ever so slightly between sizes, but they all are clear and they all work.
I haven’t really designed using separate charts for each size before and I have to say, it was kind of fun. It was a much bigger canvas to work on rather than using smaller repeats and I have a feeling I’ll be doing more of it for sure!
That being said, since there are no repeats for this cute alphabet hat pattern, you may want to mark some divisions on your chart and add corresponding stitch markers to your work to help you keep track of where you are. This is particularly important for chart rows 1 & 8 where you set up the letter spacing.
And as, always with colorwork/fair isle knitting on a hat pattern, make sure to keep your floats loose enough that they won’t pull when the hat stretches. And trap any floats you need to as you work. I personally don’t worry about that as much for hats as I would with other stranded knitting (like socks for example) because you aren’t going to catch your fingers or toes on a float when you put it on, but you can do it however you like!
