This adorable baby bunny bonnet knitting pattern is the perfect Spring knitting pattern for your baby or toddler!
Friends, I think in this contentious day and age, there is one thing we can all agree on. Bonnets are adorable. Always. Also, they keep little ears warm which is a huge advantage over hats.
Not to mention that a cute little chin tie keeps the bonnet on your little one better than a hat. It’s much harder for them to pull it off! But of course, with bonnets with chin ties, always supervise your little one, don’t tie it too tightly and never let them wear it while sleeping.
This cute baby bunny bonnet knitting pattern is a fun knit. The main body of the bonnet is knit flat in garter stitch which is incredibly easy and fast going and makes it warm and squishy. You only need to knit in the round to finish the very back, so if you prefer knitting flat, this is a good choice.
I borrowed these cute knit bunny ears from my old classic baby bunny hat pattern and they’re quick and easy ( and also knit flat)! If you’ve never knit one of my animal hats or animal bonnets before I have a thorough video that goes through how I attach the ears the hats and bonnets. If you have questions, take a look!
Sewing the ears onto a bonnet works exactly the same as sewing them on hats. It may help you to pin the ears in place or to pin or mark the top center line of the bonnet to make sure your ears are attached straight and symmetrically.

To knit the bonnet strings:
Pick up 2 stitches at the bottom of the front corners of the bonnet with white yarn. Using double pointed needles, knit an icord until the strings are about 7 inches long. Cut yarn and pull through stitches to close, weave in ends.
To knit the outer ears (make 2):
Using straight needles, cast on 12 stitches using the white yarn. Leave a long tail to stitch the ears to the hat.

Row 17: k2tog, k8, ssk

Cut yarn, pull through remaining stitch to close, weave in that end.
To knit the inner ears (make 2):
Using double pointed needles as straight needles, cast on 10 stitches using the pink yarn. Leave a long tail to stitch the inner ear to the outer.
Rows 1-16: knit odd rows, purl even rows
Row 17: k2tog, k6, ssk
Row 18: purl all stitches
Row 19: k2tog, k4, ssk
Row 20: purl all stitches
Row 21: k2tog, k2, ssk
Row 22: purl all stitches
Row 23: k2tog, ssk
Row 24: p2tog
Cut yarn, pull through remaining stitch to close, weave in that end.
To assemble the bonnet:
First use the long tail on one pink inner ear to whipstitch it wrong sides together to one white outer ear.
Make sure your stitches don’t show through to the other side of the outer ear. Knot the yarn and weave in the end. Repeat with the other ear parts. Pinch one assembled ear at its base and use the white cast-on tail to make one stitch so it holds its shape.
Then stitch the ear to the top of the hat. Repeat with other ear.
Please use common sense, don’t tie the chin straps too tightly and never leave baby unattended while wearing your bonnet.
Happy Knitting!
