This adorable polka dot hat sweet cherry hat knitting pattern has a subtle white dot pattern and two adorable cute pom pom cherries on top! This is a fun knit for your baby or toddler!
I have wanted to knit a cherry hat for a long time, because cherries are one of my favorite fruits ever. I am so happy during cherry season in the summer! But I realized if I just knit a hat that looks like a cherry, it would just be red. And I already made a tomato hat, so that just wasn’t going to work.
In the end I decided to go with this adorable light blue hat with pretty white polka dot pattern and two cute cherries on top. I think I was channeling Mary Engelbreit a little bit. Or at least thinking repeatedly about her art and “life is like a chair of bowlies”. Do you remember that from the 90’s?
One of my friend’s moms was very into her and had her artwork all around the house. I’ve always thought being an illustrator for yourself (not necessarily for books) would be such a fun job. Of course I already have a fun job, so I’m not switching, but sometimes it’s fun to daydream!
It was a little bit of a challenge to figure out how to knit a split cherry stem. I really do try to minimize assembly and seaming in my patterns because I know that’s not most people’s favorite part. But it turned out it was easy. Nothing like creative icords! There are even step by step photos so you can see what I’m explaining in case it’s hard to visualize. I also try to err on the side of too much information rather than not enough!
