Honestly, I knit this pineapple hat over like three or four times. I just kept thinking it wasn’t looking good enough. But since I never got to the point of adding the leaves, of course it wasn’t looking like a pineapple. So I finally sat down and added the leaves and it magically tranformed into the pineapple-iest pineapple hat ever. It’s so delightful.
I should note that similar to my carrot hat, the leaves kind of bounce around when your little walks or runs and that makes it extra cute. I also finished this hat on the same day we got a grocery delivery with an actual pineapple in it so Baby V was extra delighted.
And now I’m kicking myself for not finishing this one earlier! Isn’t that the way it often is for creative projects? The ones you think aren’t going well, turn out amazing in the end?
Anyway, this cute hat is a combination of a super east knit and purl only diamond pattern. No weird stitches or confusing counting. And then the pineapple crown leaves are knit flat afterwards and sewn on top. It’s easy peasy. Seriously, this one is speedy and cute, I promise. If you’ve never knit one of my animal or food hat knitting patterns before, this would be a really fantastic one to start with because it’s so simple!
If you knit a pineapple hat with me, I’d love if you’d share it with me by linking your project to the pattern on Ravelry, can’t wait to see your work!

Sweet Pineapple Hat Knitting Pattern Instructions
Size 0-3 months
Using long-tail cast on, cast on 56 stitches with the yellow yarn onto your circular needles. Join to knit in the round and knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch in a rib stitch for 5 rounds. Then knit the diamond texture pattern as follows, repeating rounds 1-4, until the hat is about 4 inches long (stopping after a round 1 or 3).
Round 1: (p1, k3) repeat to the end of the round.
Round 2: (k1, p1, k1, p1) repeat to the end of the round.
Round 3: (k2, p1, k1) repeat to the end of the round.
Round 4: (k1, p1, k1, p1) repeat to the end of the round.
Decrease (divide your stitches evenly between 3 double pointed needles or use magic loop):
Round 1: (k6, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Round 2: knit all stitches
Round 3: (k5, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Round 4: knit all stitches
Round 5: (k4, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Round 6: knit all stitches
Round 7: (k3, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Rounds 8: Knit all stitches to the end of the round
Round 9: (k2, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Rounds 10: Knit all stitches to the end of the round
Round 11: (k1, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Round 12: k2tog and repeat to the end of the round.
Cut yarn, pull through loops and close. Weave in ends.
To make the leaves
(make 3 tall and 3 short leaves):
Using double pointed needles as straight needles, cast on 5 stitches with the green yarn. Leave a long tail to stitch the leaf together and to the stem. To make a short leaf, knit all stitches for 15 rows. To make a tall leaf, knit all stitches for 20 rows. Then for both types of leaf finish the leaves as follows:
Row 1: ssk, k1, k2tog ( 3 stitches)
Rows 2-3: knit all stitches
Row 4: k3tog (1 stitch)
Cut yarn and pull through remaining stitch to end, weave in that end
To assemble the hat:
Using the long cast-on tail from one short leaf, set it on top of one tall leaf and stitch them together about halfway up the sides
Repeat with two more. When you have 3 pairs of leaves, you will stitch the leaf pairs to the top of the hat in a triangle formation around the center
Stitch each leaf pair along its bottom edge and then stitch each leaf pair up the side about 1 inch to the leaf pair next to it so the leaves all stand up
Attach them securely since this is an item for babies!
Happy Knitting!
