This adorable summer picnic wreath knitting pattern is knit in colorful picnic blanket plaid with a cute line of ants coming to steal your sandwich!
I’m still on my wreath kick and I’m still working on what to knit in the summer. It can be tricky because it’s hot and who wants to be working on a big thick heavy knit sweater. Not me!
So I designed summer picnic wreath knitting pattern. This cute red plaid picnic blanket pattern is knit flat and then seamed into a tube to form a wreath. I found this easier to knit flat in terms of keeping my tension even.
However, if you prefer to knit it in the round, you can simply follow the directions but join to knit in the round after the cast on and knit all rounds to make it stockinette. Piece of cake!
Then, if you’re knitting a picnic blanket pattern, why not finish it off with a cute line of ants. To start with I actually made ants out of small black pom poms, and while it was cute and entirely DIY, they were a little too large. It was just too much ant, if you know what I mean.
If you’d like to do it that way, I just sewed three small black pom poms together in end to end with a needle and thread and then sewed the ant bodies to the wreath with black yarn as the legs. It was actually really really easy.
But in the end I decided to go with fake ants instead. I waffled between 2 cm or 3 cm fake ants which is a life decision I never ever thought I would either make or take seriously. But here we are! I felt like 3 cm ants were the right answer and they are linked below!
