If you have a reptile enthusiast, they’ll love this adorable slithery snake hat knitting pattern! This one comes in sizes from newborn or toddler!
I know that a snake hat knitting pattern is not for everyone. But I am on a quest to knit every animal hat I can possibly think of! I even have spiders, friends. There will always be someone who’s looking for pretty much anything I come up with. And also, it’s fun!
And anyway, I think this little snake is cute, and I know a lot of little people who think snakes are cool, so hopefully your young reptile enthusiasts will be very excited when you knit them a snake hat. Or hey, maybe you have a Harry Potter lover who really likes Slytherin?
This cute snake hat is knit in the round and does require basic knowledge of fair isle/stranded knitting. But you only have to knit with two colors for 6 rounds so it’s super manageable. If you are working on your fair isle skills, this is a fun pattern to practice with!
I designed this hat in four sizes so the bigger the hat, the longer the snake’s cute little slithery body. The pattern includes instructions and stitch counts for sizes 0-3 months, 6 months, 12 months and 2T+ (which fits most kids through age 3).
In order to make this pattern a little easier, I found it very helpful to place stitch markers, as directed in the pattern, to keep track of when you’re knitting body repeats vs. head or tail repeats. But once you get started, it’ll be easy to keep track!
Are you ready to knit your own snake hat? Let’s get to the details!!
