Knit up an adorable Silly Monkey Hat for your baby or toddler with this easy knitting pattern!
Oh my gosh, you guys, I can’t even with this monkey hat. Seriously. It makes me a little nostalgic because O’s Halloween costume when he was this exact same age was a monkey. We gave him a real banana to hold and he was so darn cute. And Baby V is rocking her monkey hat just as adorably.
Although, now that I mention it, how did I not think to hand her a banana when I was taking these photos. Blogger fail. Oh well, she still looks awfully stinkin’ cute. I think this one might be right up there with the Kitty Cat Hat as one of my faves!
Anyway, it’s got a few more parts than some but none of them are complicated and it’s totally worth it when you’re finished. Imagine how cute this would be as a baby shower gift?!

Row 1: kfb 4 times
Row 2: purl all stitches
Row 3: k2tog, k2tog, ssk, ssk
Bind off and weave in that end.
To assemble the hat:
First use the long tail on one tan inner ear to whipstitch it wrong (purl) sides together to one brown outer ear. Make sure your stitches don’t show through to the other side of the outer ear. Knot the yarn and weave in the end. Repeat with the other ear parts. Use the long brown cast on tail from the outer ears to sew the assembled ears to the top of the hat as shown.
Thread the long tan cast on tail from the face onto your yarn needle and use it to stitch the face to the front center of the hat. Use the long cast on tail from the nose to stitch it to the center of the face.
To make the eyes and mouth, thread a length of brown yarn on your yarn needle, make a horizontal stitch for each eye that is loose enough to pull upward into a U shape. Make one tiny stitch through the center of the U to anchor the shape. Repeat with the other eye.
Use a backstitch to make the slightly curved mouth below the nose. With all of these stitches make sure that they are loose enough that they won’t pull when the hat stretches.
Finally take a length of brown yarn on your needle, knot it inside the top of the hat and sew three little loops for the hair, knot between each one to anchor the loops. Knot again on the inside and weave in all ends.
And that’s it! If you want a super easy to print pdf silly monkey hat pattern that includes sizes 0-3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 2T+:
