The reversible hat knitting pattern is two hats in one, double thick and cozy, this cute baby and kids hat is knit all at once!
Ok, now you know I love knitting. I really do. But sometimes, even handknits can’t hold up to the wind. That’s particularly true here in the Windy City (even though the wind is not, in fact, why they call it that). Anyway, on those super windy, bone-chilling days, you might need another layer. And you might also need a different color pattern.
If that’s the case, I’ve got you covered with my reversible hat knitting pattern! It’s literally double thickness and soooooo warm and cozy. You can knit the two sides in two different colors or even one side solid and one side stripes as I’ve done here.
And the best part is that it’s done all in one piece, no weird seaming or turning things inside out. I got you!
Baby V definitely reaches for this hat when it’s really cold and she was also super excited to show her friends how her hat could “magically” change colors. We are deep in Harry Potter love over here so that was particularly exciting.
And ok, maybe it takes twice as much yarn as a normal hat but you’ll be twice as warm and you’ll get twice as many wears out of it, so I think that makes it twice as awesome! Is that how it works, does that math check out?
This hat is knit entirely in the round. You do need to use either double pointed knitting needles or the magic loop method for both the starting and ending sections. I do not have a knit flat reversible hat pattern at this time, but if that’s something you’re interested in, let me know!
Are you ready to knit a really reversible hat for your little one? Let’s do it!

To finish your hat:
If there is a small hole at the cast on, sew that up with some scrap yarn. Then tuck one half of the hat up inside the other so that it’s double layered. Flip the other way to show the other color or pattern!
