This adorable tree frog hat is colorful and fun and can be knit in any size from newborn to toddler, ribbit!
One of my earliest baby hat knitting patterns was a cute little frog hat and I still love that one. But the other day I saw a picture of a red-eyed tree frog and was just really enjoying their bright colors. Can you imagine seeing one out in the wild? I’m sure at least a couple of you have traveled or live places where they are. That would be so neat!
This whole project got me started down a rabbit hole and before I knew it, I was looking up red-eyed tree frog facts. Did you know they’re nocturnal and sleep during the day (with their eyes closed obviously) which helps them hide. On the other hand, scientists also think they might use their bright colors to startle predators if they are disturbed. Oh and also, they taste bad, which seems like a really smart defense mechanism though I’m glad I’m not the scientist who discovered that fact. Nature is so cool!
Anyway, then of course I immediately took a look in my yarn stash and it turned out that I had just the right colors of yarn so I knit up a red-eyed tree frog hat right away.
Did I ever think I would spend an afternoon figuring out how to knit those bulbous orange tree frog toes. No. No, I did not. Did I have a blast doing it? YES! And they turned out so cute. I think I need to knit more animal toes. I have avoided knitting gloves for that very reason, but this was just fun.
Adorable frog toes aside, this hat is delightful and I can’t think of any cute little ones that wouldn’t love it if you knit a tree frog hat for them! The brighter the colors, the better!
