Learn to count with this cute 123 Numbers Hat knitting pattern with charts and instructions for four sizes from newborn to toddler!
I kind of think my 123 Numbers Hat knitting pattern might be my favorite new pattern. After I designed the ABC Alphabet hat I was having fun working with entire project charts instead of using repeating charts and it seemed that and 123 hat pattern just HAD to be next.
I also really loved this combination of tan (this is Lion Brand Vanna’s choice in Linen which is one of my all-time favorite colors) and tomato red. It’s not too bright, but it’s still bold and perfect for a counting pattern.
There is however, one important thing you need to know about this hat: because there are different numbers of stitches for each of the different sizes of hat, each hat shows different numbers:
- The 2T+ knitting pattern contains numbers 0-9.
- The 12 months knitting pattern contains numbers 1-9.
- The 6 month knitting pattern contains numbers 1-8.
- And the 0-3 month knitting pattern contains numbers 1-7.
Not a big deal at all, they’re all equally cute, but I wanted to make sure that was very clear. I wouldn’t want a 12 month old who’s a super fan of number 0 (who’s not?) to be disappointed, you know?
On the plus side (number pun, ha!), there is a separate chart for each size which makes these really easy to knit without getting confused. I would recommend setting a stitch marker after every 8 stitches to help you keep track of where you are on the chart. This is especially important for the first chart row to make sure the numbers are spaced correctly. It’s pretty easy after that!
If you knit a numbers hat, I’d love it if you’d share it with me, I can’t wait to see how your’s turns out!
