Learn how to knit an SSK stitch (Slip, Slip, Knit), a single left leaning decrease, with this easy video and step by step photo tutorial!
When I first learned to knit, I just did what patterns told me and didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to the details of what different stitches looked like. It was enough to just learn what in the world I was doing, you know?
I just kind of assumed that all decreases were pretty much the same and since I learned to knit on my own, no one told me otherwise. But, of course eventually I noticed that some decreases lean to the left and some lean the the right and if you want your knitting project to look good, you need to pay attention to that kind of thing!
Ssk, also called slip, slip, knit, is probably the second most common decrease (k2tog is the first, of course) but it’s kind of a tricky stitch! In fact, I figured out after a while that I was totally doing it wrong. Ugh.
Luckily, knitting is forgiving and probably no one but a super master knitting instructor was going to notice. So I can give myself a little grace.
But I eventually learned how ssk the right way and today I’m going to show you how to knit an ssk and get a nice neat left leaning decrease in your knitting projects!
