This fun and easy Christmas Paper Chain knitting pattern is full of beautiful color and texture and is the perfect holiday knitting pattern!

One of my kids loves to make paper chains for decorations. I remember loving that as a child too. But the ones they make out of construction paper always fade and then eventually rip and that’s really a bummer.
So this year I designed a set of knit paper chains. I realize calling them paper chains when they are knit out of worsted weight yarn is a little strange, but I don’t know what else to call them, do these chain garlands have another name? Let me know if you know!

I have seem some paper chains made out of unconventional materials before but I wanted one that was colorful and full of texture. The knit chain links are knit flat and I designed them in five different stitch patterns so this holiday decor looks special and just plain beautiful. Pay attention to gauge for this project so that all of you links turn out the same size!

Other than that though, this is a simple project and a perfect knit to work on while you watch tv. Nothing complicated, not too many seams, just pretty meditative knitting which is my favorite kind.
This knit paper chain garland knitting pattern is knit FLAT with worsted weight yarn and then the links are sewn together at the end. You can hide the seams of each link inside the next link and you never see them.
Are you ready to knit your own knit paper chain? Let’s do it!
