This fun twist stocking cap knitting pattern features twisting lines of colorwork that get closer and closer together towards the top of the hat creating an ombre effect!
Good morning! The Twist Stocking Cap knitting pattern is one of those designs where I drew a sketch but didn’t really have any idea how I was going to accomplish the design. And then, when I started knitting, it just kind of started magically working out. I could not believe how the twisting lines pattern fit in perfectly with the decrease.
And I could not possible be happier with the way the decreasing twist creates kind of an ombre effect as the stripes get closer and closer together. I chose to knit this in lavender and light pink and I topped it with a light pink pom pom. It gives me major heart eyes and stocking caps styles are always Baby V’s favorite to wear in real life.
This cute Twist stocking cap is knit in the round on circular knitting needles and double pointed knitting needles for the decreasing section. You can also try flexi flips OR magic loop for decreasing. I find both of those easier to use and there are tons of tutorials on the internet for either technique!
This baby stocking cap knitting pattern requires basic knowledge of Fair Isle/ stranded knitting, AKA knitting with more than one color of yarn per round. It’s not particularly complicated, but you may benefit from placing stitch markers every 8 stitches to keep track of the pattern repeats.
