If you run out of yarn, learn how to join to ends of yarn with this quick and easy tutorial, it will make your knitting projects so much easier!

I once heard that “real” knitters never use a knot to secure anything in their knitting.
And I think that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. If you’ve been here anything length of time you know I hate knitting “rules”. Sure rules of thumb or guidelines can be helpful but this kind of “rule” above only makes people who do it differently feel bad or inferior. That seems pointless.
There are about a million reasons why you might want to join ends in your knitting or crochet. Sometimes I even knot AND weave in ends. This tactic is especially helpful at color changes on knitting projects that might get heavy use (like a stuffed animal or a hat)
I was joining yarn ends just like this recently because I was using up a bunch of pre-cut yarn lengths from an earlier version that I frogged. And if I had not knotted the ends to join them and woven them in instead, the ends would have not only really been in my way, but it would’ve taken a million years to weave them in.
There are lots of ways to join ends of yarn. There’s a magic knot, a russian join etc. I saw this version on YouTube once and it’s the strongest join that I’ve found. Sometimes if I tie a regular square knot and pull, it can come loose. This knot is small and really secure. The small size is also nice because it’s easy to hide on the wrong side between stitches and doesn’t stand out.
Are you ready to learn my favorite way to join ends in knitting? If you have a different favorite technique, I’d love to hear about it!
