The Sunrise Sunset has a golden sun in front of stripes that look like a sunset! This duplicate stitch knitting pattern is a winner!
I suspect I’m in the minority here, but I am much more likely to see the sunrise than the sunset. Maybe it’s the phase of life I’m in or the fact that I’m definitely a morning person but honestly, I rarely take time for a good sunset. I’m usually dragging by then, especially in the summer.
It doesn’t really matter though for this knit as this can be a sunrise hat knitting pattern or a sunset hat knitting pattern, it’s up to you! The key is the jewel tone stripes. I chose a deep navy for the folded brim/land and then pink, coral, hot pink and magenta for the sunrise/sunset stripes. Honestly, choosing the colors was half the fun of knitting this cute hat!
After you have finished knitting this hat in the round with worsted weight yarn, you will add the golden sun with duplicate stitch. If you are a seasoned knitter you probably already know and love duplicate stitch for knitting. And if you haven’t done it before, fear not, I have a duplicate stitch tutorial. It just takes a few stitches before it’s old hat and you’ll love it.
My favorite thing about duplicate stitch is that it’s done after the knit is completed so you can be sure that the placement of your design is exactly where you want it on the finished knit. I also love that it’s super easy to fix mistakes. And honestly, this half circle sun shape is just about the easiest thing you could ever duplicate stitch. That makes it fantastic for beginners!
