The Haflsies Hat is knit in three colors with half stockinette, half seed stitch and a chunky and cozy ribbed brim, this one is a fun and colorful knit for your baby or kid!
After I knit my Hemisphere Rainbow Hat which is half blue sky and half rainbow stripes (and by the way, one of my favorite patterns ever) I decided I’m very into this kind of vertical color split. There really aren’t very many knitting patterns like this, but I think it’s fun!
So for the Halfsies Hat knitting pattern I decided I would split the hat not only with colors but also with texture. So “half” of the hat is knit in pink stockinette stitch and “half” the hat is knit in purple seed stitch. I say “half” because in order to make the decrease the same for all sizes, I split the color change not exactly down the middle. But I promise, it makes it much much easier and you don’t notice it’s not exactly half.
Then I thought a cute light teal folded brim on the bottom would be fun too. It’s giving me a kind of 90’s vibe that I’m into and since 90’s style is pretty trendy right now, I hope that you all will like it too.
In the pattern, I recommend placing a stitch marker to mark where the color change happens but after a few rows, you may not need it any more. Just be sure to twist your yarns on the wrong side at the color change (as you would in intarsia knitting) to avoid a gap between the colors.
I chose pink, lavender, and teal but I bet this hat would be really cute in lots of other color combinations. You could even choose colors based on a school, or a sports team or a wizarding house, whatever you like! Are you ready to knit? Let’s do it!
