This cute scalloped heart hat knitting pattern is a sweet Valentine’s Day knit for your baby or toddler this winter!
Updated February, 2025
This pattern has been updated to include additional child and adult sizes. For more information on the changes, what’s included and many other questions, click here.
When I was a kid I had a lavender colored snowsuit with an embroidered pattern across the front that was very similar to this cute scalloped heart hat knitting pattern. I loved that snowsuit so much and always wore it with my Punky Brewster moon boots.
Has any sentence ever dated someone’s age so precisely before? Ha!
I think the idea of the snowsuit with the scalloped heart pattern was triggered by a random ad I saw on Instagram a couple weeks ago. Apparently those ad targeting algorithms are EXTREMELY accurate because the ad was for a type of mitten that they made in the 80’s that had color changing pictures on them. When you went outside in the cold, colors and pictures would appear on your mittens.
I did not own a pair of these magical mittens but my best friend did and I absolutely coveted them. She is really nice and sometimes she’d let me wear them when we played at her house, but boy, seeing this ad made me wish I had a pair of my own all over again!
I did not however actually decide I NEEDED a pair of over 30 dollar color changing mittens for grownups. I mean, I kinda still want them, but I’m not going to actually buy them.
But anyway, color changing mittens, Punky Brewster moon boots and here we are back at scalloped hearts.
I love this cute baby hat knitting pattern because it would look adorable in lots of different color combinations. And while I’m putting out near Valentine’s Day, this cute row of hearts with scallops around them would really look adorable on your little one all year ’round!
If you knit a scalloped heart hat for your little Valentine (or if you owned either color changing mittens or Punky Brewster moon boots), make sure you share it with me!

Hi!
The largest size 2T+ fits most kids through age 3 or 4. If you would like to go up a size you can add 8 more stitches to the largest cast on and another half inch in height before the decrease. Hope that helps!
