This adorable scalloped garland knitting pattern is knit flat with two needles, no seams and no fiddly techniques, it’s like magic!

One of the things I’ve always been inspired to do is knit things that you shouldn’t be able to knit. Of course, with crochet, you can make just about anything, but with knitting, there always seemed to be limits.
A few years ago I design an easy knit heart garland and the goal was to knit an entire garland made out of heart shapes using one continuous strand of yarn. No seams, so ends to weave in, no short rows. And it was a challenge but I did it!
This year I set out to knit a scalloped garland or scalloped bunting and I wanted to do the same thing. I wanted to knit each scallop attached to the others so you can make your knit garland as long or as short as you want and make the entire thing out of one strand or working yarn (unless you decide to change colors).
I went through probably 6 iterations but I’ve got it and my scalloped garland knitting pattern is my new favorite. It turned out SO cute and it knits up incredibly quickly. You kind of get in the zone and before you know it, you’ve got yards of garland!
Tips and Tricks for knitting scalloped garland
- Keep track of which is the right side and which is the wrong side so your garland doesn’t get twisted.
- Block your garland when finished, it makes a huge difference. If you use synthetic yarn a quick steam block will help remendously.
- Don’t skip the crochet edging, it helps stabilize the bunting and keeps the scallops from flipping when you hang it.
I am also going to include a complete video for knitting the scalloped garland so you can see exactly how it works!
Are you ready to knit a bunting, let’s do it!

Setup next scallop: cast on 24 more stitches with knitted cast on for a total of 25 stitches, repeat rows 1-6.
Finishing: When your garland is long enough, cut the yarn and pull through the last single stitch to end. Then using a contrasting color of yarn, crochet a chain for 6 inches, then, on the right side, crochet through the top of each stitch with a slip stitch to stabilize the top edge of your garland. End with another 6 inch crochet chain.
