The fun stripe hat knitting pattern is a bold twist on a classic. The contrast brim and bright pom pom will look adorable on your baby or toddler!
I’m calling this pattern the Fun Stripe Hat knitting pattern because, well…it’s fun! I love the bold black and white stripes. This striped hat looks even cuter from the top where you can see all the stripes making smaller and smaller circles!
This adorable easy baby hat knitting pattern also has a fun contrast brim and pom pom on top. I chose to make mine a fun orchid purple. I think it looks fantastic with the black and white stripes. But, like with all basic hat knitting patterns, you can customize the color choices endlessly!
I also gave this one a chunkier ribbed brim that usual but again, that’s another thing you can customize to your liking, if you prefer a thinner ribbing, go for it!
If you haven’t knit stripes in the round before, the awesome thing is that you do not have to cut the yarn each time you switch colors for the stripes, you can just “carry” the yarn up inside the hat and no one will ever see it.
There are no special techniques for carrying yarn up for these short 2 rounds stripes. Simply switch back and forth using different colors, leave the yarn color you aren’t using connected and set the ball or skein off to the side. When you need to switch back to that color, just pick it back up and begin knitting with it. Make sure not to pull super tight when you pick it up for the next stripe or you may get a vertical pucker at the start of the round.
Once you know this technique, you can make pretty much anything striped! You could even vary the width of the stripes for this pattern. Just know that most knitters don’t recommend carrying yarn for stripes more than 5 to 6 rows or rounds.
Anyway, let’s get started!
