Learn how to purl two together (p2tog), an easy left leaning decrease, with this quick and helpful knitting video and photo tutorial!
P2tog is an easy decrease and if you know how to purl, then you can definitely p2tog (purl two together). The concept is basically the same as k2tog where you knit two stitches together.
In fact, p2tog is most often used on the wrong side of a knitting project because when you turn it over, it IS a k2tog!
Isn’t that kind of like magic?
I also love a stitch like p2tog where the name is totally descriptive. It just makes sense since what you are literally doing is purling two stitches at the same time. Once you’ve done it once, you’ve got it down!
I also use p2tog a lot when I’m decreasing among purl stitches on the RIGHT side of the project. For example, if I was knitting garter stitch in the round and needed to decrease on a purl round.
The reason I default to p2tog in that situation, is that I think it’s difficult for the average person to notice the difference between a left and right leaning decrease among purl stitches and p2tog is MUCH easier than its opposite, ssp.
So hopefully it’s clear why learning how to p2tog is important for every knitter!
