Knit up a sweet little valentine hat with an adorable XOXO fair isle pattern and a fun pom pom on top!
Ok, so I just couldn’t help myself. I liked the Fair Isle Heart Hat so much I just had to make another Valentine’s Day hat. And to be honest with you, designing fair isle patterns is SO fun. I’m a type A person so combine an artsy thing with charts and graph paper and it’s basically my dream come true. I would expect to see more of them. I mean come on, there’s even a little heart shape mixed in there! Anyway, for this hat I went with X’s and O’x (aka hugs & kisses) in a fair isle pattern. You can discuss amongst yourselves whether the X is the hug or the kiss. Apparently much like which group is Law and which is Order in the tv show, this is a controversial subject. Let’s just agree there’s no wrong answer, yeah? (The O’s are obviously the kisses….)
This is a great pattern if you’re sort of new to Fair Isle knitting (like me) Just be sure to size up if your little one is between sizes, and be sure to carry (or float) the unused yarn color LOOSELY behind the work so that it won’t pull when the hat stretches.
The pattern includes Sizes 0-3 months, 6 months, 12 months, 2T+
Gauge: 20 stitches = 4 inches
Supply List:
Worsted weight yarn in bright pink and light pink
US 7 16″ circular knitting needles
(If you need help, my favorite knitting reference book for everyone from beginners to advanced knitters is THIS ONE!)
