The Evaporation Zig Zag Hat knitting pattern has a fun pattern of decreasing zig zags, looks great in any color and is a great knit for your baby or toddler!
One of the fun things about working from home while my kids were also doing remote school at home was getting a first hand view of what they are learning. I don’t know about your kids but during normal school, when I ask them what they learned that day, I get very few actual answers.
According to them they never learn anything at all! The year of remote schooling taught me that wow, they actually aren’t learning “nothing”, they’re learning a ton every single day (I’m obviously not actually surprised).
I especially enjoyed hearing and seeing my older elementary kid learn science remotely. They got to do an evaporation experiment at home using things everyone has like paper cups and they were all so excited to see it work. Do you remember those days when things like that were just totally fascinating?
Anyway, I designed this cute zig zag baby hat and decided that the way the zig zags are deconstructing themselves on the hat kind of reminded me of evaporation. So I named it the Evaporation Hat knitting pattern!
The zig zags get smaller as you go up on the hat eventually disassembling into polka dots and this is a super fun stranded knitting pattern to knit. If you are still learning fair isle techniques (knitting with more than one color at a time) this is a great pattern because there aren’t any long floats, they’re all pretty even and the pattern simple enough that you can really focus on your tension and technique without getting caught up staring at the chart every two seconds.
The Evaporation hat is knit in the round and includes instructions in 4 sizes and would look fantastic in any color combination including this lavender and magenta!

What a beautiful hat. This would be a great pattern for someone new to colorwork or someone who dislikes changing the yarn every few stitches.
