Turn a boring mirror into a unique and colorful Unicorn mirror, perfect for you little unicorn-lover’s bedroom! This project is fun, quick and easy!
Baby V is in a unicorn phase, which is just delightful. It started when my cousins got her a unicorn “stuffie” for Christmas and then after that, she got this delightful unicorn book. And well, you know what happened, suddenly I’m making a DIY unicorn mirror like that’s a totally normal thing.
I mean, a DIY unicorn mirror SHOULD be a totally normal thing. Which is why I’m sharing it. But I thought it made sense to explain how we ended up here. The idea is that when you look in the mirror, then YOU have a unicorn horn and rainbow hair. And I just think it turned out so darn cute. Baby V loves it too.
I think I might have to make all of the mirrors in my house into DIY unicorn mirrors. I look pretty good with a golden glitter horn and rainbow hair… it’s like a real life snapchat filter! Here’s how I did it.

DIY Unicorn Mirror Instructions
Note: If you’re wondering why I made this craft with paper instead of a sturdier material, I figured paper is super easy to work with and a glass mirror already requires adult supervision, it’s not like anyone is going to let their kids manhandle their bedroom mirror, so, in my opinion, paper will hold up just fine in this application!
- The first thing we need to do is make a template for the rainbow hair. I roughly measured and then sketched a hair shape on some scrap white paper. Then cut it out and hold it up to your unicorn mirror to make sure it’s the right size and shape. If not, adjust.
- When you are happy with the hair shape templates. Trace each one (I have one for the mane and one for the forelock/bangs) on another sheet of white paper so that you have two identical versions of each shape template.
- On one of the identical shapes, sketch the divisions of the rainbow colors and label them. Then cut apart only that one template. You will use the other identical template shape as a backing.
- Trace each color shape on the corresponding rainbow paper, cut it out, and glue it, with a glue stick, to the correct spot on the hair template. Repeat with all of the colors as shown.
- When you have glued all the rainbow colors down, you may need to trim off any little bits of the white backing template that are still showing. Set aside the rainbow mane.
- To make the ears, just cut two little ear shapes out of white cardstock and two slightly smaller ear shapes out of pink cardstock. Then glue together.
- Finally, to make the golden horn, draw a triangle on the back side of the gold glitter paper and cut it out. Shape it into a cone and secure with hot glue. You may need to trim the bottom edge of the cone/horn to make it sit flat on your mirror
- Attach the golden horn to the top of your DIY unicorn mirror with hot glue
- Attach the ears to the top of your DIY unicorn mirror with hot glue
- Attach the mane to the top of your DIY unicorn mirror with hot glue
- Add some cute little scrapbook flowers around the base of the golden horn if you want
And that’s it! Enjoy your DIY unicorn mirror!
