Make this beautiful ombré flower top trinket box with this easy tutorial!
The pictures of this pretty flower top trinket box seriously make me swoon. How fun is that ombré paint technique with a little bit of wood grain showing through?
But the real showstopper is that insanely gorgeous peony on top! I’m still in disbelief that it’s not real. Can you believe it?! They’re getting so good at faux florals these days! I had picked up these pretty watercolor acrylic paints that I wanted to try and was looking for some ribbon or something for the top of the trinket box when I wandered past this flower and literally stopped in my tracks. And then Baby V insisted on holding it the entire rest of the time we were in the craft store. Clearly she has mama’s good taste!
Here’s how I made it:
DIY Flower Top Trinket Box
Watercolor acrylic gel paints (these were brand new at my craft store from Martha Stewart.)
1 . This paint blended so much more easily than regular acrylic paint (it’s also not completely opaque so be aware of that). I started at the bottom of the box with a bright pink and blended it up toward white at the top. I used a wide “wash” style brush which is wide and flat, and a tiny dab of water when necessary. This paint also dried a little slower than regular acrylic paint which helps with blending too!
2. I painted the lid with mostly the white watercolor paint.
3. When the box was dry, I pulled my peony flower head off the stem (mine just popped off) and hot glued it to the top of the box!
And that’s it! Enjoy your gorgeous flower topped trinket box. Wouldn’t this be such a pretty way to carry the rings in a wedding??
