This easy baby hat knitting pattern has a pattern of converging arrows on the top, it’s a fun and easy knit for your baby or toddler!
I really really love a hat knitting pattern that has something interesting going on at the top. This Converging Arrows Hat was a really fun one to design and I’m so happy with how it turned out.
Another favorite of mine is my Petal Hat which is just a lovely surprise that’s much much easier to knit than you would think.
I think when designing hats, the decreasing section seems like something we need to simplify or just ignore and treat as a necessary evil, but you can really do a lot of neat and inventive things in those narrowing slices of knitting! I have seen some incredible hat tops on Ravelry. I mean, I’m not even remotely there yet, but it really is a fun thing to explore! I feel like it’s a genre all on its own, almost like sweater yokes.
We have so many opportunities to think outside the box on the top of a hat, there’s no need to just slap a pom pom on and call it finished!
I know, as a designer I do sometimes steer away from making the top of a hat too complicated because I worry people will be overwhelmed by a more complicated technique AND the use of double pointed knitting needles. If that’s you, then I have to tell you, you NEED to learn the magic loop technique for knitting in the round. You will never use double pointed knitting needles again!
And not having to juggle a bunch of DPN’s frees you up to try more interesting and difficult things at the top of a hat…for example. You see where I’m going with this? Anyway, let’s get started on your Converging Arrows Hat!
