This classic Christmas Tree Ornament Set knitting pattern has easy instructions to knit a perfect candy cane, tree and star ornament!
Good morning, friends! I think this Classic Christmas Tree Ornament Set knitting pattern might be my favorite ornament knitting patterns ever. Can we chat about them for a little bit about these easy knit ornaments before we get started?
So, I have been on the hunt for a good way to knit a star shape for YEARS. I am not even kidding. Much like my Heart Shaped Handwarmers, I kept thinking to myself, there has to be a better and easier way to do this. No one likes splitting the stitches for the points and knitting them separately and then weaving in all those ends. It’s a total pain.
I wanted my star knitting pattern to be knit in one piece, be knit flat and be EASY.
Well, I’m here to tell you, I’ve got it! It was an an internet search of epic proportions that eventually led me to a random knitting chat room where someone mentioned that Elizabeth Zimmerman had written a star pattern. It was buried in her 1974 “Knitter’s Alamanac” which is out of print, but I got my hands on a copy and knit her version of a star to see how she did it.
It was good, I love her method, but of course I had to change it, I wanted a different stitch pattern and I wanted totally different size and decrease method. I tried several different options, and love how mine turned out. So this is my own version inspired by hers.
Then, after I had a dance party celebrating my successful one-piece knit star ornament, I decided it needed some friends. Enter the classic knit tree shaped ornament and the candy cane knit ornament. Aren’t they so stinkin’ cute all together?!
There is nothing more satisfying to me than solving a challenging design problem like this, it’s the best! So, are you ready to knit your own classic ornament set?
