This adorable busy beaver hat knitting pattern has a cute face complete with adorable beaver teeth and beaver tail texture brim, this one’s a great knit for your baby or toddler!
This adorable beaver hat knitting pattern is instantly recognizable. But I always test it with my kids. If it takes them any longer than 2 seconds to know what it is, I need to keep working. The both yelled, “beaver!” right away with this one. Presumably it’s the beaver teeth that make it super obvious, right?
Anyway, this cute animal baby hat knitting patter was a fun one to design that came out exactly like my sketch. It’s the best when that happens! I hope you also noticed that the seed stitch brim is meant to remind you of the texture of a beaver’s tail. I thought that would be fun instead of actually adding a tail that would get in the way. I really think this one is cute!
I actually have always thought beavers are fascinating animals, I’m not sure why it took this long to get to beaver on my animal hat list. We actually have a forest preserve near our house that has an entire area near a river that is FULL of trees felled by beavers. You can literally see their tooth marks, it’s so neat! What a cool and specialized superpower they evolved to have, huh? And the dam building? Don’t even get me started! How do they know how to do it? Isn’t nature amazing?
Anyway, before I get sidetracked by beaver factoids, back the beaver hat knitting pattern. I’m thinking this will be one of those knitting patterns that you didn’t even know you needed until you saw it. At least I hope so!
If you knit up your own beaver hat (bonus points if your little one only has two teeth!) I’d love it if you’d share what you knit, I love seeing what you make!

Row 1 (WS): purl all stitches
Row 2 (RS): knit all stitches
Row 3: purl all stitches
Row 4: knit all stitches
Cast off and weave in that end.
To assemble the hat:
Thread one cast on tail from an ear on your yarn needle and use it to stitch that ear to the top of the hat. Repeat with the other ear.
Thread the long cast on tail from the nose on your yarn needle and use it to stitch the nose to the front center of the hat. Do the same with the long cast on tail from the teeth and stitch them just below the nose.
Thread a length of brown yarn on your yarn needle and use it to make one long stitch vertically through the teeth to make it look like two beaver teeth as shown. Weave in those ends inside the hat.
Thread a length of black yarn on your yarn needle and use it to stitch a loose upside down U-shaped stitch on the face for the eyes. Then make a tiny stitch through the center of that upside down U to help it hold its shape. Repeat with the other eye. Weave in ends inside the hat.
Finally, thread your yarn needle with a length of tan yarn and use it to stitch 3 whiskers on either side of the beaver’s nose as shown. Make sure these stitches are not too tight or they will pull when the hat stretches. Weave in those snds inside the hat.
Happy Knitting!
