So I have a confession to make, as an, up-until-fairly-recently boy mom, who has a lot of friends and family in the southern half of the US, for a long time I seriously did not get the giant bows on babies thing. Y’all LOOOVE your big bows down there!
The smaller the baby, the bigger the bow (well, wait, actually I guess the bows stay the same size and the babies just get bigger…?) Anyway, I thought it was cute and all but I thought it just wasn’t my thing….
And then I had a girl. I was one of those people who pulled out all of O’s old clothes and said, I don’t care if she wears “boy” clothes, she’s just a baby, she doesn’t care, let’s be practical. But when I had O’s clothes next to the little baby girl clothes we’d gotten as gifts in the drawer…well, I think you know which ones I kept reaching for.
And you guys! I’m not even that girly of a girl! I hate wearing dresses! But I fell prey to the siren song of ruffles and bows and cuteness. I’m sure, had I been purchasing all of these clothes myself, my practical (read: cheap) side would have won out in the end, but I have some awfully generous parents, in-laws, and relatives and Baby V has not been short of “girly” clothes.
Don’t get me wrong, we still mostly stick to pants and practical play clothes and plenty of O’s old tshirts and pants are still in the rotation. But man, sometimes, you just can’t beat pink and flowery (or purple and bow-y).
All this is my long winded way of saying, I thought I designed this big bow hat pattern for all of you big bow lovers out there. But in the process, I became one too! I’m officially on the giant baby bow train! (That would be a really cute train…) Big Bow Hats for everyone! You can wear the bow centered or off to the side, it looks adorable either way. Enjoy!
