Have you ever made candles? I have done it a couple times, one of which involved probably the biggest craft fail I have EVER had. (don’t let this deter you, it was a freak accident!) I was making candles when I still lived with my parents, so I must have been in high school. And to make candles, you need to melt the wax first so you can pour it into whatever container you’re using. I did this with an old aluminum can in a pan of water on the stove which makes a double boiler. Totally acceptable method. Except somehow as I was picking up the can, I spilled the wax. All over my mom’s brand new kitchen. Yep. New cabinets, new hardwood floors, new appliances, the whole thing. Luckily, my parents weren’t home at the time. But if you’ve ever had to remove wax from anything, you know that unless you can reheat it somehow, your only choice is to kinda scrape it off. So I spent the next two hours carefully scraping wax off the hardwood floor. And you know what, my parents had no idea until I told them many years later. Phew! (And now you know the extent of my teenage misbehavior…)
Now, were I to try this again, (and it’s been 15 years, it’s probably time) I would do a couple things differently. #1 use an old pan with a handle to melt the wax. And #2 cover my work area with newspaper or something. Because duh! So don’t let my story scare you away, candle making is fun, way easier than it looks and they make really awesome gifts because people love candles but for reasons I’ve never fully understood, they are always so expensive! So get inspired by these beauties and make some of your own!
