This cute baby hat knitting pattern has a colorful pattern of rainbow waves around the brim, your little one will love it!
You guys, Baby V got a rainbow shirt so I had to make another rainbow baby hat. I mean, just in case the 9 other rainbow baby hat knitting patterns I have already aren’t quite right for that special event you have coming up.
I think I have a rainbow problem, you guys.
Or is it not a problem at all because rainbows are awesome? Based on my pattern sales and downloads I’m going with the latter. That’s really why I love you all, you love rainbows as much as I do!
It’s just that in the depths of January and February when it’s cold and gross and there’s sleet and “wintry mix” (if you’re not from the midwest, that’s a combination of snow, rain and wind and it’s as terrible as it sounds), I just crave color.
My SAD lamp isn’t enough, I need rainbows!
So here we are, yet again with an adorable and bright and cheerful rainbow hat knitting pattern. This one is called Rainbow Waves because, well, it looks like rainbow waves.
Expert knitter? Yes. Expert pattern namer? Umm…no.
Anyway, this fun pattern is nice easy way to practice your fair isle or stranded knitting (aka knitting with more than one color at a time). It’s not difficult to keep track of the pattern and the color changes which makes it a great choice!
Also, please note, if you plan to knit one of the two smaller sizes, I did include a scaled fair isle color chart for those sizes but that chart does contain some rounds with 3 colors used at a time. It’s totally manageable though. Just a heads up!

Hi Cassie,
I absolutely love all your creative patterns, thank you for sharing your ideas! I’ve knitted a few hats for gifts and donations, but am starting to sell other items I’ve made. I’m curious though whether you allow anyone selling finished items from your patterns, of course, selling the patterns is protected by copyright. I’ll respect and honor whatever you want, thanks so much!
