Turn a blank notebook into a pretty and unique Fabric Wrapped Notebook!
Have I mentioned how much I love the Target dollar spot? Yes? A hundred times? Well, I have to say it again but it’s just so awesome! (and no this post is not sponsored by Target) There’s just always something good there! I love it! Although it’s getting kind of hard to walk through with O as he’s realized how much good kid stuff they have too.
Anyway, the other day I found a package of 3 blank notebooks. They had them in 2 sizes but I grabbed a package of the smaller ones. (Honestly, these may have been one of those $3 items, I can’t quite remember) I have loved blank notebooks for as long as I can remember. You really get attached to them in design school when they become an extension of your brain, but I’ve always liked to have a cute one for brainstorming or keeping lists or planning parties. And I love a good half size one that fits in any bag. Those are my favorite. Aa and I actually have a shelf (and a box) of filled sketchbooks floating around somewhere. It’s impossible to get rid of what are essentially books full of ideas, you know? But anyway, you can never have enough and they also make great gifts. Get some cute pencils and fancy office supplies and you have a perfect present for almost anyone!
But, back to the tutorial! I have an embarassingly large fabric stash so I decided I’d use up some of it to cover and personalize one of these notebooks and take it from boring to awesome!
DIY Fabric Wrapped Notebook
Craft Glue or Mod Podge
1. First, cut a rectanlge out of your fabric a little bigger on all sides than the open book.
2.Brush glue or mod podge on the outside covers and spine and stretch the fabric around the book.
3. Trim the fabric to an even 1/2″ all the way around the open book. Then at the spine, cut two slits almost all the way to the edge of the book like this:
4. Wrap around the raw edges of the fabric into the inside covers of the book and glue, leaving the little flaps at the spine last.
5. Put a little glue into the spine and using something with a small point, push that last flap of fabric into the spine to secure. And here’s the finished product!
