This adorable Down the Chimney Santa hat features Santa delivering a sack of toys down the chimney, it’s the perfect Christmas knitting pattern!
I’ve knit lots of Santa hats in my time. And hats with Santa on them. And hats with Santa’s hat on them! Really all combinations. But this year I thought it would be really cute to knit a hat showing Santa taking a sack of toys down the chimney!
I’m calling it the Down the Chimney Santa Hat knitting pattern. The brim and bottom of the hat are knit in a brick pattern to look like a chimney top. Then Santa is added above holding on to the edge of the chimney and his sack of toys. It’s so cute!
This Santa’s Toys hat knitting pattern is knit in the round with worsted weight yarn on both circular knitting needles and double pointed knitting needles (for the decrease section at the top of the hat).
The bottom part of the hat with the brick patten is knit with stranded Fair Isle colorwork techniques meaning you will need to knit with two colors of yarn in the same row. The brick pattern is incredibly easy to knit and this would be a great project to learn or practice your color work techniques with because it’s only part of the hat and it’s an easy pattern repeat.
After you finish knitting this easy Christmas hat knitting pattern, you will add Santa peeking out over the top of the brick chimney with duplicate stitch. If you don’t know how to do duplicate stitch in knitting, don’t worry, I’ve got a great in-depth tutorial that will show you how.
Finally, after you add Santa and his mittens to the hat, you can knit his sack of toys. It’s small, quick and you’ll be ready to add it to the hat in no time. This is a fun Christmas pattern that combines several techniques in an easy way and I think you will enjoy knitting it!
Are you ready to deliver some toys down the chimney?
