I just love this butterfly stitch hat knitting pattern so much, you guys. When I first saw this stitch, I thought, surely this must be REALLY hard to do. I think I must be traumatized from a scarf pattern I tried to knit years ago that had this one nearly impossible stitch where you had to knit 7 times into one place. It was nuts. And ever since them I’m wary of every new stitch because I assume they’re going to be too hard.

But you guys, this butterfly stitch hat is totally not hard. I even have step by step photos for you so you can exactly what to do. I think that will really help. And honestly, once you’ve done the butterfly stitch once, you’ll understand it and the rest will be a piece of cake.

I knit this sample in a beautiful light blue hand-dyed Malabrigo Worsted which is one of my favorite yarns of all time. I don’t often use wool for baby hats, but if your little one can wear wool this is a great yarn!

Of course this hat would look fantastic in any worsted yarn, just choose one that’s pretty much solid (no speckles of stripes or color variations) so you can really see this gorgeous stitch pattern!
