Knit up this adorably little teddy bear hat with my newest knitting pattern!
One of the very first knitting patterns I ever wrote down was my Baby Bear Hat which is just a simple baby hat with ears. It’s super cute and easy, but the more hats I design, the more I find there’s a lot of demand for different skill levels and you guys seem to loooove the animal hats with faces. I don’t want to redesign the original Baby Bear Hat because it’s adorable in its simplicity, but I thought a slightly more detailed bear hat is in order. And I’m so glad I made it because this little teddy bear hat is just so darn cute! I like my animal faces on the serious side but if you want your teddy bear hat to be smiley, just turn the mouth up a little! Scroll on down for the pattern!

Rows 2-3: knit odd rows, purl even rows
Row 4: p2tog, p4, p2tog
Row 5: k2tog, k2, ssk
Bind off, weave in that end.
To assemble the ears:
Take two of the ear halves and put them right (knit) sides together and use one of the cast on tails to whipstitch them together along the sides and top, leaving the flat bottom cast-on edge open. Turn the ears right side out. Then use the remaining cast on tail to stitch each assembled ear securely to the top of the hat.
To make the face:
Use the long cast on tail from the snout to stitch it to the front center of the hat. Then use the long cast on tail from the nose to stitch it to the hat. Finally thread a length of charcoal yarn on your yarn needle and use it to stitch three long stitches to make the mouth, as shown. Then make two short horizontal stitches for the eyes. Make sure those stitches are fairly loose so they don’t pull when the hat stretches.
And that’s it! If you want lots more size options be sure to upgrade to the PDF pattern which includes sizes 0-3 months, 6 months, 12 months and 2T+!
