This adorable peekaboo black cat hat knitting pattern features a cute (and spooky) black cat worked in duplicate stitch peeking out over a cozy folded brim!
I have long been a fan of cutesy Halloween rather than scary or terrifying Halloween. So this Peekaboo Black Cat Hat Knitting Pattern is perfect for the spooky season for me. Or honestly, you could knit this one at any time of year. Your little kitty cat doesn’t need to be black, you could make them gray or brown or tan or even make it look like your own pet!
This hat has a super cozy ribbed folded brim that is knit in the round with worsted weight yarn. Then the adorable peekaboo black cat is added after you have finished knitting the hat with duplicate stitch. If you aren’t familiar with duplicate stitch, it’s kind of a cross between embroidery and knitting and it’s a really easy way to add color motifs to your knitting projects. I have a tutorial for duplicate stitch in knitting if you are ready to learn!
Finally, after you’ve added the cute black cat to your Peekaboo Black Cat Hat, you can split some twisted worsted weight yarn into strands (or use a thinner weight light gray yarn) to stitch the cat’s whiskers as shown. Hint: Make sure to keep those whisker stitches fairly loose otherwise they will pull when the hat stretches!
I am a little obsessed with duplicate stitch patterns lately. They really allow you to add anything to a knit project but still speed through the actual knitting without juggling more than one strand of yarn at a time. Plus I really enjoy embroidery so the combo really makes me happy.
I hope that if you knit a Peekaboo Black Cat Hat, you’ll share it with me!
