Knit your own sweet little mouse hat with this easy free knitting pattern!
Ok, come on, how CUTE is this mouse hat?? But omg, you guys. Do you ever have one of those I-can’t-believe-that-just-happened moments that makes you cringe later? Let me preface this mouse hat related story by saying, we live in a old house. Like really really really old. And that means it has cracks and holes and everything’s slightly crooked. So I hope you won’t hear this story and immediately think we must not be very good housekeepers. This is part of living in a super old house. Ok? Anyway, so we had my real life blogging friend Bre and her kids over for a playdate a few weeks back. And the kids were playing nicely in the basement, and Bre and I were sitting in the living room playing with Baby V and all of sudden, Bre said, “Ah! Cassie! There’s a mouse in your kitchen!” And I looked around the corner and sure enough, there was a tiny little mouse running under the kitchen island. Eeeek! Bre took it like a champ and did not immediately run out of my house never to return. And I think she is still willing to talk to me, so apparently it’s not a friendship dealbreaker. But, ew! Cartoon mice, adorable. Real life mice in your house?! Not so cute. Anyway, I think we got it taken care of in the most humane way possible and hopefully traced the problem back to an open bag of grass seed in the garage, so now Baby V is the only mouse in the house. And a cute little mouse she is, don’t you think? If you want to knit this adorable free mouse hat pattern, scroll all the way down!

Row 3: knit all
Row 4: p2tog, p2tog
Slip second stitch over first to bind off
Cut yarn, pull through loop and weave in that end.
Use the long cast on tail to stitch nose to hat.
To assemble the ears, lay one gray outer ear wrong (purl) side up and put one pink inner ear, wrong (purl) side down on top, the pink part should be slightly smaller. Use the long cast on tail from the pink inner ear to carefully whipstitch the inner ear to the outer ear, making sure your stitches don’t show through to the other side. Repeat with the other ear. Then use the long cast on tail from the gray outer ears to securely stitch the assembled ears to the top of the hat. Thread some dark gray yarn on your yarn needle and use it to make two small straight stitches for the eyes. Then make three long stitches on either side of the nose for the whiskers. Make sure that these long stitches aren’t too tight or they will pull when the hat stretches on baby’s head. And that’s it! Enjoy your cute mouse hat!
