Make your own happy little pumpkin coasters for Halloween! I love cute little jack-o-lanterns. Don’t you? The adorable smiley ones, not the creepy super scary ones. No thank you! And I’m always looking for cute Halloween decor that doesn’t cost too much and is easy to store. I had my eye on this amazing sparkly black cat one year but in the end decided that it both cost too much money and would be a pain to keep in storage and take up a lot of space for something you only use once a year. So I passed. But these little coasters make a cute table accent, hardly take up any room, AND are functional! Triple win! Here’s how I made them:
Happy Halloween Pumpkin Coasters
Acrylic craft paint(I used the marmalade color)
Waterproof protective coating
1. First, I traced my cork coasters onto paper.2. Then I sketched what I wanted my cute little pumpkins to look like, while staying within the confines of the coaster shape.3. I cut out each little pumpkin, laid it on top of a cork coaster and used my craft knife to carefully cut out the shape. I found one strong cut was much better than multiple less deep cuts, that kept the cork from crumbling as much. 4. Then I gave each pumpkin’s body a coat of orange craft paint. And OMG, orange is a really hard color to photograph. I apologize if it burns anyone’s retinas. I did my best to accurately capture the color! 5. When that coat was dry (you can still see the cork texture through the paint), I went back with a tiny brush and added some accents with another coat of the orange. I also painted the stem green. 6. Then I added the cute faces with dark gray paint. 7. Finish your coasters with a waterproof protective coating. A spray polyeurethane would probably work well. You don’t want paint coming off on the bottom of a wet drinking glass!
