Knit a cute little football hat for your favorite quarterback with this easy knitting pattern!
Football is very popular in our house, (well for Dad anyway…) the kids try to watch but I don’t think they really understands what’s going on and they loses interest pretty quickly. But if daddy will supervise the kids playing in the basement tv room while he watches and I have some quiet mommy time, I’m ok with it!
Who knows, maybe Baby V will be a superfan? That would sure make her dad happy! Anyway, when he suggested a baby football hat, I had to humor him. Why not? So here you are football fans, a super cute, and really easy baby football hat! Scroll on down for the free pattern!

Fun Football Hat Knitting Pattern Instructions
(6 month size, see PDF for additional sizes-now including adult sizes!)
Using long-tail cast on, cast on 64 stitches onto your circular needles with the brown yarn color. Join to knit in the round and k1, p1 in a rib stitch for 5 rounds.
Knit all rows until the hat is about 4 1/2 inches long.
Decrease (divide your stitches between 3 double pointed needles or use magic loop):
(Optional: knit the first three rows of the decrease with white yarn)
Round 1: (k6, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Round 2: knit all stitches
Round 3: (k5, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Round 4: knit all stitches
Round 5: (k4, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Round 6: knit all stitches
Round 7: (k3, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Round 8: knit all stitches
Round 9: (k2, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Rounds 10-11: knit all stitches
Round 12: (k1, k2tog) repeat to the end of the round
Rounds 13-14: knit all stitches
Round 15: k2tog and repeat to the end of the round
Cut yarn, thread through loops and pull to close. Weave in ends.
To add the laces:
Thread a length of white yarn on your yarn needle and make one long straight vertical stitch from the bottom front center brim to the middle front center of the hat. Make sure it is not too tight or it might pull. Then make three or four short horizontal stitches across the previous stitch to form the football’s laces! Knot and weave in ends inside the hat. And that’s it! Are you ready for some football (hat)??? (sorry had to get that in there….)
The optional PDF upgrade includes instructions for sizes 0-3 months, 6 months, 12 months 2T+ AND now includes ADULT SIZES! YAY!
