This pretty Autumn Fade Hat Knitting pattern has a gorgeous colorwork pattern that fades from dusty pink to rust to mustard, it’s perfect for your baby or toddler this Fall!
I sometimes struggle with what to knit in the Fall, despite the fact that Fall is, arguably, prime handknit wearing weather! There’s nothing like a cozy knit item made with love to wear when the morning is clear, the leaves are falling and there’s a chill in the air.
Even better if you can get some apple cider or a bonfire involved. Maybe an apple orchard or pumpkin patch? Sign me up!
So the Autumn Fade hat was born out of my love for the colors of autumn and I love how it turned out. I am a big fan of knitting colorwork like this that looks complex but really isn’t too hard. I also added a folded brim to this one to up the cozy warmth factor! I love a good folded brim.
And to answer a question I get a lot, yes, the measurements in the pattern are meant to include the brim folded up. So if it says to continue knitting until the hat is X number of inches long including the folded brim. Fold the brim up and THEN measure how much you’ve knit. Someone always asks me that which I get because it’s super easy to overthink that one.
Anyway, I chose a dusty pink, rust orange and mustard yellow and I love how they’re subtle enough to make a nice fade but different enough to still see the individual stitches. I actually knit this one with the colors in a different order and it totally didn’t work that way, so when you’re choosing your yarns, make sure there is enough color contrast to show all the hard work you’re putting into it!
