So after I knit the Stripey Baby Sweater for my friend Rebecca, I decided baby M also needed a hat. I made the sweater 6 mo. size so a little 6 mo. hat should be just about right when it starts to get chilly in the fall! I was going to make it match exactly but I was almost completely out of white yarn so I modified the stripe pattern and I really liked how it turned out so I thought I’d share it with you!
Stripey Baby Hat (0-6 mo. size)
You need:
worsted weight yarn, partial skeins of blue, gray and white.
US size 7 16 inch circular needles
set of US size 7 double pointed needles
(If you need help, my favorite knitting reference book for everyone from beginners to advanced knitters is THIS ONE!)
Using long-tail cast on, cast on 64 stitches onto your circular needles with the blue yarn. Join to knit in the round and knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches in a rib stitch for 5 rows.
Switch to gray yarn and knit 2 rows.
Switch to white yarn and knit 1 row.
Switch back to gray yarn and knit 2 rows
Switch to blue yarn and knit 5 rows.
Repeat this stripe pattern in stockinette stitch until the hat in about 4 1/2 inches long.

Any instructions on how to make this for a two year old?
Thanks

You can increase the pattern by adding sets of 8 stitches. So cast on 8 more or 16 more etc. How many will work will depend on your gauge and the size of your two year old’s head. I suggest experimenting!
