These cute and easy candy cane icord knitting patterns are the quickest and easiest Christmas knitting pattern of the season!

I love knitting icords. I know some people hate it but I enjoy it. I thought this year, for a quick pattern we could whip up some candy cane striped icord and it was just as fun as I thought it would be?
What will I use candy cane icord for, you ask? You can use Christmas icord to decorate your tree. You could use it as a garland to decorate your house. You could use candy cane striped icord to wrap gifts or to tie bows like ribbons. You could use it as ties on any sort of Christmas knit garment or hat. The possibilities are endless!

I hadn’t knit much striped icord before this and wasn’t sure how it worked but to be honest, there is really only one trick. When you are knitting striped icord, you need to make sure that the color that you are NOT using is tucked inside the icord on each row when you slide the stitches down to the other end and start a new row. Don’t worry if that’s confusing I will include a photo. Basically you carry the other color up INSIDE of the icord.
If you knit some candy cane icord, I’d love to see what you use it for, please share!

Candy Cane Icord Instructions:
Below are two stripe patterns for the candy cane icord. Work candy cane icord just like you would any icord, sliding the stitches back to the other end of the double pointed needle instead of turning your work at the end of each row.
The most IMPORTANT part of knitting striped icord is that when you knitting with one color, you must carry the other color up INSIDE of the icord. That means after you slide the stitches to the other end, bring the unused color up the middle THEN bring the working color back around behind it. Here’s how that looks:

Candy Cane Icord Pattern A:
Cast on 3 stitches with red yarn. Work an icord for 3 rows. Add white yarn and work the icord 3 more rows. Continue on alternating 3 rows of red then 3 rows of white, making sure to carry the unused color up inside the cord. Bind off when you are happy with the length.
Candy Cane Icord Pattern B:
Cast on 3 stitches with red yarn and work as icord.
Rows 1-3: knit all stitches red
Rows 2-4: knit all stitches white
Row 5: knit all stitches red
Row 6: knit all stitches white
Row 7: knit all stitches red
Rows 8-9: knit all stitches white
Repeat rows 1-9, making sure to carry the unused color up inside the cord. Bind off when you are happy with the length.
Happy Knitting!
