You guys! I think I am losing my mind! As my mom said to me yesterday, being surrounded by boxes and unable to find anything is literally something I have nightmares about. And I don’t mean literally like Rob Lowe on Parks & Rec. I mean actually literally I have bad dreams about being unable to find things. Can you say type A personality? But anyway, we’re getting there and I apologize that things have been a little slow over here. I’m working on it!

Anyway, today I wanted to tell you about one of the things I am most excited about in our new house. I have an office/craft room! And it’s right off the dining room so I can be in there and still keep track of O. Did you ever see see where I used to work? This is going to be a big improvement. If can ever clear it out and actually see the desktop!

And our house also has a basement which gave Aa some space he can call his own too. He started calling it the “Men Cave” because one half is the giant tv and 45 speakers for him and the other half is going to be a playroom for O. And we had to laugh when, after playing downstairs for a while O came upstairs and announced, “Mom! I had fun playing the Men’s Room!!” Ha! Not quite right, little one. But anyway, I’m super excited about my new creative space and I had to whip up a little decoration. Do I have it up on the wall yet? No, of course not. But I will!  And this was an easy project that turned out super cute. I hope if you make one, you’ll share it with me!

Sewing Room Giant Button Garland

Oversized unpainted wooden button shapes (I had 13 because that’s all they had)

Acyrlic craft paint

Bakers twine or string

Edited to add: People keep asking where I found my button shapes. I bought them at Michaels but it was more than 6 months ago and I have not seen them again since. However, here’s something similar, either leave them as is or spray paint them!

1.If your buttons have any rough spots or edges, sand them lightly.

2. Give each button a coat or two (if necessary) of paint. I chose a happy collection of pinks and yellows. A protective topcoat is optional. These buttons would be really cute if they were glossy but they look great matte too.

3. To string the buttons, cut a long piece of twine, I’d say at least 6 feet.

4. Holding a button in your left hand, bring the twine from the back to the front through the upper right hole.

And spend some time cursing the manufacturers of unpainted wooden shapes who make the price stickers so hard to get off! Argh!

10. Repeat with the next button evenly spacing them until you’ve added them all.

Hang your pretty garland in your creative nook and enjoy!

  1. So cute! I can’t wait to see it in person. I can’t believe you are still crafting after just moving. You are amazing!

  2. I love this Cassie – so pretty for a craft room, laundry room, or special event. It inspired me to think about painting them pearl white for a wedding garland by the guest book at my daughter’s wedding. Thanks for the inspiration! I’m visiting from the Home and Garden Thursday party and so glad I saw your link 🙂

  3. I literally just made a garland for my office(using the exact same bakers twine!) but now I have to make this one too! Those buttons are so adorable, I can’t wait to see what they look like in your creative space! Thanks for sharing!

  4. What a lovely idea! I’ve never seen wooden buttons here in Italy but I’ve seen giant plastic ones… I think I’ll give it a try, thank you!

  5. This is super cute! How exciting to have your own craft space. Can’t wait to see what you do with it. Thank you for sharing at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a great week!

  6. This is super cute! It would look adorable in a craft room or a little girls room. Fun idea! Im going to include this in a roundup on Sunday. Thanks for linking up to the Life of the Party!

    1. I got them at Michaels but it was probably about six months ago. Hope that helps! I you can’t find them, it would easy enough to get plain wooden circles and drill your own buttonholes.

    1. I bought them at Michaels! (no idea if they still have them though…) But I suggested to someone else, you could always buy plain wooden circles and drill buttonholes in them!

  7. Have you ever tried getting off price tags with hair dryer? It melts the glue so it comes off. I’ve never tried it a wood but it might work. Love the garland!

  8. I got my mom a rug with buttons on it for her sewing room last Christmas, so I was thinking this would be a nice gift for this Christmas! Can you tell us how wide your buttons are? It’s hard to guess from the pictures, except for the one that shows your fingers, these could be an inch across or six inches! My guess is something like two inches?
