Knit up a cute everlasting sprig of mistletoe, this mistletoe knitting pattern uses some fun techniques to create a knit Christmas heirloom!

If you’ve been here for a while you might know that I sometime like to design and make things just to see if I can. I like a good challenge! This year I decided I wanted to knit some mistletoe. And I wanted it to be really cute mistletoe that you could hang and reuse Christmas after Christmas.

This mistletoe knitting pattern uses a few unconventional techniques and materials that I’ve not really used before and kind of figured out as I went along but luckily for you, none of them are particularly difficult or use materials that are weird are hard to find. You might even have everything you need at home if you’re a crafty person.
The number one thing I wanted for my knit mistletoe was enough structure so that it would hang nicely and not be limp. I’ve accomplished that with some thin wire and the pattern includes photos and instructions showing how to do it!

I also tinkered around with a variety of ways to add the mistletoe berries. I tried single stitches, I tried french knot and I tried tiny pom poms. But it turns out that small beads look better than all of those options by far. So that’s what we went with for the pattern. Incidentally, I went with white mistletoe berries because that seems to be accurate and I like the look, but if you want to use red berries, go for it!
This mistletoe knitting pattern is knit flat but it IS knit on double pointed knitting needles because you will be using some icord techniques. So don’t let the DPN’s scare you away, there is no knitting in the round! This pattern also uses worsted weight yarn but honestly, as long as you use the appropriately sized needles, you could use other weights, it will just affect the finished size of the your mistletoe.

And a final note, the little bundle of mistletoe is made up of three sprigs. All three sprigs are made exactly the same way, the only variation is the length of stems at the start and between leaves so you can customize your bundle as you like it. Finish it off with a pretty red icord bow and it’s the perfect Christmas decor knitting pattern!
