Learning to identify and fix a twisted stitch will save you a lot of heartache and is a great knitting troubleshooting technique!

It took me a while to learn how to fix a twisted stitch even though this is one of the THE most common problems that new knitters have. The thing is, when you’re learning how to knit, no one ever explains this part, not even books!
It probably sounds confusing and difficult but to majorly simply knit stitch anatomy. A live knit stitch that’s on your knitting needle is just a loop that goes over the top. The loop has two sides that come down over the needle, those are called the legs. One comes down in front of the needle and one comes down behind.
The right “leg” should always be in front. That’s it. That’s all there is to it. I know! Why isn’t that basic knitting info? If you look at the photo at the top of this page, you can see right away that the left “leg” is in front on that first stitch!
A twisted stitch might not seem like a big deal but it can definitely stand out and make your knitting look weird and even change the texture of the stitch pattern that you might be knitting.
